Girls Soccer played Shrine on Saturday night at Venture Park and it was all that it was billed to be as the two teams battled again this time with a District title on the line. The two teams had split the season with each taking a pair of 1-0 victories. The game was back and forth as both teams tried to establish some sort of momentum. A late foul in the end of the first half saw Hallie Robinson of the Knights lace a free kick above the outstretched hands of goalie Paige Schuster for the first goal of the game with 30 seconds left in the half. The Ventures came out in the second half and sent wave after wave of pressure at the Knights' defense. Late in the 2nd half the Foley faithful saw Marissa Bui make an excellent play to keep possession and find the foot of Jillian Ramos. The Junior forward fired one past the Knights goalie to tie the game at 1. This is how the regulation would end and the two teams would head to overtime. The Ventures didn't waste time as Sam Ostrowski crossed a beautiful ball to Megan Gleason who promptly buried it in the back of net to give the Ventures their first lead. The team headed into the 2nd 10 minute overtime period with the lead. Shrine pressed hard at the end but Paige Schuster came up with a couple big saves and the team was able to run out the clock and clinch the District 57 Title with a 2-1 victory. The game will go down as an instant classic in the great Foley-Shrine rivalry. The team next plays on Tuesday, June 6th at 6 PM as they travel to Grosse Pointe Woods Liggett to face the host Knights in the Regional 15 semifinals.
